Our chopstick making workshop is a hands-on experience where you shape, polish, and finish your own pair of Japanese chopsticks.
No prior experience is needed, and the process is explained clearly in English, making it easy for first-time visitors to enjoy Japanese craftsmanship.

The flow of a Chopstick making workshop
1.Choose Your Wood
Select your favorite wood from several types with different colors, textures, and weights.
2.Shape with a Plane
Use a traditional Japanese kanna (hand plane) to shave and shape the chopsticks.
3.Refine with Sandpaper
Polish the surface with multiple grades of sandpaper until it becomes perfectly smooth and comfortable to hold.
4.Finish with Walnut Oil
Apply natural walnut oil to protect the wood and bring out its beautiful grain.
The History of Japanese Chopsticks
Japanese chopsticks have a history of over 1,400 years. Introduced from China in the 6th century, they were first used in Shinto rituals and at the imperial court before becoming part of daily life as Japanese cuisine developed.
Over time, Japanese chopsticks evolved to be shorter and pointed, suited for rice, fish, and delicate seasonal food. By the Edo period, they became everyday objects of craftsmanship, made from wood or bamboo and guided by etiquette that teaches respect.
