Chopstick Making and Calligraphy for a JTB Tour Group

A report from an on-site workshop for a tour group

On 6 August 2026, we ran a hands-on workshop for an international tour group arranged by JTB, one of Japan’s largest travel companies. We brought everything to a conference room at Grand Cube Osaka (Osaka International Convention Center) and set up two activities: calligraphy and chopstick making.

Your name in kanji

For calligraphy, each guest got a kanji version of their own name and wrote it with a brush and ink. Holding up the finished sheet is always a proud moment.

Shaping your own chopsticks

Wood blocks and planes laid out on every table before the guests arrived The meeting room set up for chopstick making

Then it was time for chopstick making. Everyone shaped their own pair from a block of wood with a traditional Japanese plane, shaving it little by little until it felt just right in the hand.

Both activities fit easily into a meeting room or event space, and every guest leaves with something they made themselves.
