A report from our on-site tea service at InterContinental Osaka
On the evening of 6 October 2026, we were invited to run a matcha hospitality booth at the reception of Global Startup EXPO 2026, held at InterContinental Osaka. Around 250 VIP guests from Japan and overseas gathered in the hotel's Hinoki ballroom area, and our team served freshly whisked matcha throughout the party.
A small tea house in a ballroom
The venue was a modern ballroom, so we brought the atmosphere of an outdoor tea gathering with us: a red parasol, a red bench for guests, a kettle and a long table of tea bowls. Our hosts welcomed guests in kimono.
Real tea bowls for every guest
For a large party, paper cups would be the easy option. But we wanted each guest to hold a proper tea bowl, so we lined up dozens of matcha bowls, each with its own colour and shape. Many guests took time choosing their favourite.
Whisked one bowl at a time
Our hosts whisked each bowl by hand at the table while other staff handed out tea and cleared the bowls, keeping the line moving through the evening. Between bowls, guests asked about how matcha is made and how to hold the bowl.
